Great tips on shooting during the blue hour, straight from the blue hour master himself.
I’ve always tried to justify my RF 28-70mm f/2 as "three primes in one," but I’m starting to see where its limits lie…especially when trying to counting the weight on long missions. Also, the focus breathing and AF noise aren’t exactly ideal for video work.
And that point about walking down when the restaurants are closed, spot on. That literally just happened to me while shooting a holy grail timelapse from Montenvers, overlooking the stunning Petite Dru in Chamonix. Lesson learned: next time, I’m definitely packing extra snacks.
I have done even 1s exposures with the Mavic 3 Pro and it handled them really well in non windy environments. I don't push the ISO too much with it though, I'd rather go for still days and longer exposures.
Lovely colors, Alex. Really enjoy the night and dusk shooting atmospheres.
So good man. I love your blue hour images -- your signature indeed!
Great images and great tips Alex - thanks
Great article! It’s crazy how good the ibis gets these days and I like your point about not bringing a tripod, it’s such a hassle.
Great article. I do love the calm and solitude that comes with blue hour, and playing around with those hues in post.

That lens is a beast but the lack of stabilization and the weight had me relegate it to commercial work only. That, it does really well!
Have you pushed the drone out much at blue hour? Or do you find it lacks way too much?

🤔 might give that a spin. Winter peaks and some late night drone action.
keep me posted mate
