Love the newsletter. Great insight into the newsletter vs social. My goal for the past year has been to grow my newsletter. It’s so important to own your audience. Your photos and musings about the Dolomites gets me super excited for next week. It’s going to be legendary!
So true mate! The lost world of keeping relevant blurs the lines . Most probably fear the disconnect. I could benefit from the same I think.
Great letter as always, interesting thoughts on the email list.
I lost a couple of projects recently because my following was to low. Maybe a good thing. Not the brand, but the person at the brand must to stuck in the old ages.
I mean social media isn't going away. Brands want to be where customers are, and they mostly are on social. But there are better ways to create real engagement with your true fans beyond social, that's our mission!
This is awesome, Alex. You’ve dropped some solid gold here, and I appreciate all of the work you put into these. I honestly look forward to your substacks more than your posts…. Sometimes. There is just so more that can be said here, and I love it.
I live by the disconnect! So essential for all creatives! I would love to hear any tips you've learned along the way on how to stay consistent with sending out newsletters to your email list? I always promise it to my audience and then only make time to send 2 or 3 out each year. Would love to set aside more time for it, but I'm curious to hear what's worked for you?
Well I just know that every month on average, one goes out. That's the only rule. Then I carve out two mornings to work on it throughout the month. Usually once I start,i want to finish!
Glad you found some clarity in the retreat time! Freelancing is super part-time for me right now as I'm splitting my time with other priorities, but I just joined Substack - excited to start building my first mailing list. The ownership of the audience list is so valuable as social platforms shift! Plus slow media allows for more authentic depth.
Thanks Alex … an interesting juxtaposition that you talk about an email list you own by sending out on a platform you don’t … We are all battling with this - I wrote about it a few weeks ago - Escaping the Algorithm | Missing the buzz … I will spend a few weeks in the Dolomites in the van soon … given the summer season it may be challenging (but hopefully not impossible) to find some alone time .. safe travels and all the best for the 2nd half of the year ..

thanks brother. I have to admit I like sitting down to write these
Deep thoughts, appreciate your sharing - and encouraging do-able versions of the elusive sabbatical
